New Attendance Requirements
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by 9am on 97191203.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility. From the end of Term 2 2018, all Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained. Please update your contact details with us as soon as possible to ensure you receive all notifications.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind. The Whittlesea Secondary College Attendance Policy is available https://www.whittleseasc.vic.edu.au/our-policies/
If late to school, you must check in at the Administration Office at the front of the school. You can use your Student ID to check in with our new Compass kiosk, and/or speak to someone at reception.
It is not ok to be late to class without a reason. Every time you are late, you impact the learning of others. Consequences will be given by classroom teachers for repeated lateness.
Early Departure Procedures
At the College, our number one priority is to allow students to learn in an environment with minimal disruptions. As you can appreciate early departures during class time is one of our challenges.
In order to help reduce class interruptions for students and teachers, students may only be collected at recess and lunch breaks:
Recess 11:25am – 11:50am
Lunch 1:05pm – 2:00pm
The College requires a parent/guardian note stating the student’s name, reason for leaving, date and time leaving. The student can hand this into the General Office at the beginning of the day.
Students are required to meet their parent at the General Office and the parent will then sign them out as “early departure” with the reason on the Compass Kiosk located in the foyer.
Parents are unable to walk on the College grounds during school hours
All visitors must report to/sign in at the General Office
If a student feels unwell at school, they can ask their teacher to go to sickbay/General Office for assessment.
Students are not allowed to contact parents direct via phone
No mobile phone use is permitted during class
The College First Aid Officer will contact parents when required, as stated in our College policy.
