Vietnam 2017

On June 15 Whittlesea Secondary College embarked on a journey of a life time to Vietnam with 12 students and 2 staff members.

Leadership Training Day

On Monday 24th July the Whittlesea Secondary College Student Leadership Team and students in 7E participated in the Leadership Training Day at the College. Students had the opportunity to work on developing many skills throughout the day. These included team building, communication, public speaking and Kids Teach Kids orchestral instruments. 7E and the leadership students will now have the opportunity to apply these skills throughout the semester in the Kids Teaching Kids program, working with our feeder primary schools.

Coffee School Bus

Over the past two weeks, 30 students have taken the opportunity to gain their barista certificate when the Coffee School Bus came to visit. The students had a great time working on a machine, practising their coffee extractions and texturing and pouring milk.

Junior Girls Football

Our Junior Girls Footballers were one of our most excited teams we’ve taken out and were extremely enthusiastic in their divisional tournament.

Whittlesea easily defeated new competition Mernda Central, as well as a big win against The Lake and Mill Park. We made the final, and a very strong Hazel Glen team awaited us. After a colossal first half and a physical match, we went down by five goals.

A fantastic effort by our girls. Our best player on the day was Jade Ventura.

Senior Boys Football

Our Senior Boys Football team made an extraordinary feat in making the Regional Finals, taking place in Northcote against some formidable competition.

Our side of the fixture was always going to be a tough one – playing against some very strong football schools in Diamond Valley, Northcote and Gladstone Park.

Breakfast Club

The school had a successful launch of the Breakfast Program which was attended by 75 plus students. Support is provided by staff who volunteer their time to set up and support during the duration of breakfast being served. The BP runs Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8.20 -8.50 in the new canteen. Hope to see you there!

Year 7 Visual Communication Design

A critical component of design is the application of design elements and principles. Students learn about all of these and incorporate them into various tasks such as a drawing of an owl that focuses on pattern and line.

Year 8 Netball

Our Year 8 Netballers ventured out to Mill Park for their division competition. In what was a tough pool our girls did extremely well to finish off with a 4th place out of 8 schools.

Victories came against The Lakes and Lalor North, where Eden Draper was our best player for the day.

Our third game we lost comfortably to eventual second placed Epping, who were too tall in defence for our girls.

On June 13 we re-opened the Library in a new space. The old library was purpose built about 30 years ago and it was warm, spacious and had 2 classroom areas as well as study area. Our “new “library is converted classrooms with 1 classroom area, 1 small study area and a smaller collection of books.

So which is better and which do you prefer?

 Year 7 Girl’s Netball report

Ten very excited girls travelled to Mill Park Stadium to compete against nine other schools for netball glory. With Whittlesea having the first game off they were able to watch their competition in their pool as Mill Park and Mernda battled it out. With this valuable information, Whittlesea took on Mernda head on and with some great defensive work by Kirsten, Maree and Hannah they managed to defeat Mernda 25 -1. Also a fantastic effort was put in by Eden who shot 11 goals in one half of the game.
